Kurzportrait:

Die James Cook University (JCU) ist eine der besten Universitäten in Queensland (Australien) und ist unter den besten fünf Prozent der Rankings of World Universities. Die JCU wurde 1970 gegründet und ist die zweitälteste Universität in Queensland. Ihren Namen verdankt sie dem britischen Seefahrer und Entdecker James Cook, der 1770 mit seinem Schiff HMS Endeavour als Erster die Ostküste Australiens erreichte.

Zurzeit sind von ca. 15.500 Studenten über 3.000 internationale Studenten aus 105 Ländern an der James Cook University eingeschrieben. An der JCU ist es möglich aus einem umfangreichen Studienangebot mit über 170 Undergraduate und 140 Postgraduate Kursen zu wählen. Gleichzeitig kommen ihre Studierenden unmittelbar in den Genuss einer einzigartigen Natur des tropischen Regenwaldes und die des Great Barrier Reef. Die JCU verfügt über vier Campi in Cairns, Townsville, Brisbane und Singapore.

Lage:

Die JCU liegt im tropischen Norden von Queensland. Hierher kommen jährlich tausende Besucher hauptsächlich wegen der atemberaubenden Urwälder und natürlich wegen des Great Barrier Reefs. Besonders attraktiv sind darüber hinaus die Küstenstädte Cairns und Townsville, in denen sich die beiden Hauptcampi der Universität befinden. Zahlreiche Sport,- Kultur- und Entertainmentangebote machen es neben der einzigartigen Landschaft besonders verlockend an der JCU in einer dieser Städte zu studieren.

Unterkünfte:

Das Team des „Accommodation Service“ der James Cook University hilft internationalen Studenten gerne bei der Suche nach einer geeigneten Unterkunft. Sie versorgen dich mit Informationen zum allgemeinen Leben in Cairns / Townsville (Wohnorte, Verkehrsanbindungen etc.) und helfen bei der Auswahl einer temporären oder dauerhaften Unterkunft. Neben Studentenwohnheimen gibt es zudem die Option bei einer australischen Gastfamilie zu wohnen (Homestay). Bei der Vermittlung einer „Homestay Accomodation“ ist die JCU ebenso behilflich.

Auslandssemester

Im Rahmen des Study Abroad Programms können internationale Studenten ein oder zwei Semester an der JCU studieren und aus allen Kursen, die in den Bachelor- und Masterstudiengängen angeboten werden, wählen. Die Kurswahl erfolgt bereits bei der Bewerbung.

Voraussetzungen:

Um an dem Study Abroad Programm teilnehmen zu können, musst du einerseits an einer Universität / Fachhochule eingeschrieben sein und andererseits die Zulassungsvoraussetzungen für die gewünschten Kurse erfüllen. Zudem wird ein Nachweis über ausreichende Englisch-Kenntnisse gefordert.

Sprachkenntnisse nachweisbar z.B. durch:

(Fach-)Abitur mit mind. "gut" im Englisch-GK oder "befriedigend" im LK
DAAD  mind. "B" in allen Bereichen

Bachelor

Die JCU bietet auch für internationale Studenten eine große Auswahl an Bachelorstudiengängen in fast allen Fachrichtungen an. Die Regelstudienzeit dauert zwischen drei und vier Jahren. Im Anschluss besteht in den meisten Fällen die Möglichkeit eines konsekutiven Masterstudiums. Außerdem gibt es eine Vielzahl von Double-Degrees.

Zulassungsvoraussetzungen für ein Bachelorstudium sind neben einer allgemeinen Hochschulreife auch der Nachweis über ausreichende Englischkenntnisse, die in Form eines standardisierten Sprachtests nachgewiesen werden müssen.

Master

Die JCU bietet eine große Auswahl an Masterstudiengängen in fast allen Fachrichtungen an. Diese können auch von internationalen Studenten belegt werden und dauern in der Regel ein bis zwei Jahre. Außerdem besteht die Möglichkeit in einigen Bereichen Double-Degrees zu erwerben.
